Tell us about your remote working life Peter?
I am a remote worker, working in Health and Safety, so I can work from anywhere. My wife is in a similar position. I don't have fixed work hours, but I log into work every day. Depending on what’s going on and what is needed, I get to work.
It’s important for me to have 100% guarantee that I can log in and work from wherever I am.
Why did you try Swapoffi?
Swapoffi appealed to me as I like their verification process for members, homes, the workspace and Wi-Fi. That gave me reassurance my work won’t be affected, as I know I have a workspace and reliable Wi-Fi.
I really like this community. We liaised with Teresa in Dublin before swapping and I got a good feel. It’s nice knowing you are swapping with other remote workers. Most people put their job in their swapper profile, so you know what kind of people they are – just like us!
How did you choose your swap destination?
My wife and I both opted out of fulltime careers and city life a few years ago. We work part time now and downsized our home to live in a beach resort where we holidayed for many years and dreamed of living. St. Ives in Cornwall is very beautiful. It’s famous for art due to the light there, and well known for surfing, thanks to its five golden sandy beaches.
It’s very well known in the UK and gets very busy in Summer. So, we really fancied staying in or near a city for a change to beach life. Newquay airport is our nearest airport in Cornwall. Aer Lingus and Ryanair fly directly to Dublin from Newquay airport. We don't have a great choice of destinations from Newquay airport as it’s only a small airport and we didn’t want to travel to London or other cities to access bigger airports.
So that is why we chose a home exchange in Ireland, Dublin. Teresa’s home was big and comfortable and the garden was great. So, both of those reasons helped us choose Dublin.
How was your home exchange experience in Ireland at Teresa's home?
Staying in Teresa’s home was a nice feeling. We felt like locals not tourists. Dublin is expensive for everything, so we saved at least €100 per night by using Swapoffi, totalling €1200! Wow!
Everything went very well, between Teresa and us, and between Swapoffi and us. We are excited to try more home swaps now. Ideally, we would like pet friendly home swaps next time, so we can take our dogs with us.
