Taking Pictures Of Your Home Office For Swapoffi

Spring is in the air so it's a good time for a house clean. It’s nice to see the sun coming in the windows and to have spring flowers around the house. The sun does highlight the dust though. Oh my, those windows need to be cleaned after the Winter!
If you are in the mood for spring cleaning, it might be a good time to take those all-important photos of your home with a home exchange in mind.
We tackled ours this week and then uploaded the pics in our home exchange profile. It was much easier than I thought, and I regretted putting it off for so long. Here are our tips for getting your house ready for a home exchange.
Top Tips To Take Pictures Of Your Home:
- Know What Pics Are Required.
- In Swapoffi, we know that one pic only is required for the main areas in our home. A pic of the work space or home office is essential.
- Know What Format The Pics Should Be In
- Swapoffi requires you to hold your phone horizontally to take all pics. Note also that your pics should be saved in the format of jpeg, jpg or png. A good tip is to take a ‘snip’ of your pics as this format works for us and is a smaller file size.
- Work In Daylight
- This might be blindingly obvious to the reader, but it was our inclination to do this after we finished work for the day. This gave us a shorter window to take pics in good light. Don’t be like us! Start taking pics earlier.
- Two People Is Best For Prepping Your Home For Pics.
- I worked a room ahead of my husband to declutter each room for ideal photos to show your home in its best light for a home exchange. This worked really well for us as once I tidied a room, he could come in and start taking pics immediately.
- Decluttering
- I put away personal photos of family and friends, laundry and all the other things that you don’t want people to see. Luckily there were no guests coming (through a home exchange or otherwise!) so I could hide things under beds and in closets.
- Stand Back And Scrutinise
- Take a moment to stand back and cast a critical eye over your room. Is there a crease in the middle of the bed? Is something peeking out from where I hid it under the bed? Do I need to turn the lights on to show the room more clearly?
- Pick The Best Pic Of The Room Before You Sit Down.
- Each time my husband took pics of a room. We would look at them together and pic the best one to upload to our home exchange profile. If we didn’t like any, he would take more.
- Repeat!
- We quickly got in the swing of things. Declutter a room, stand back and assess, check for lighting, review the pics, check the best pic of each room and show its best features well. If not happy, take another pic. Move onto the next room.
All in all, it took us less than 30 minutes to do all the above. If I had read these tips in advance, it might have been even quicker!
Whether it took 30 minutes or even one hour, we thought it was an excellent time investment for free accommodation in the future.
