About My Area
Description
Description
St Ives in Cornwall is the UK's most popular holiday resort. It has 5 golden sandy beaches & the Tate modern art gallery as well as lots of art galleries, shops, bars and restaurants. It is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is located on the South West Coastal Path. After work, we enjoy all St Ives has to offer including sea-swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, walking the coastal path, pubs, restaurants, cinema, jazz club, weekly farmers market and lots more.
Distance to village or town?
Our mid terrace house is in a quiet residential area, 10-15 mins walk uphill from the town, harbour & beaches. (There is a bus too!) There is a Co-op shop for all your grocery needs 2 minutes walk away, in addition to all the shops, restaurants and bars in St Ives. St Ives has everything you need including a tennis club, leisure centre with pool, jazz club and cinema. If you ever tire of St Ives, there are several lovely villages and towns around the peninsula accessible by car, train or bus.
Access to public transport
Yes, St Ives is well served by buses and trains. The feeder train from St Ives (incredibly scenic 10 min journey) connects to the main London Paddington to Penzance train. You can take buses to anywhere in Cornwall from St Ives. Newquay is the closest airport, approx 50 mins drive away. Exeter airport is 2 hours drive. Bristol airport is 3 hours drive.
What I like most about my neighbourhood is ...
The 5 sandy beaches and being on the South West Coastal path for amazing walks. We enjoy the coast and the sea so make the most of them whatever the weather. St Ives is also known for art due to the amazing light here. You can visit lots of small galleries or visit the Tate Modern Art Gallery. You can eat out in a different restaurant or bar every night if you want. There is something for everyone here. Its a family friendly destination so is very busy in Summer during the UK school holidays.
Here is one thing I think first time visitors to my area should see / do:
Walk around the harbour, town and beaches and take in the natural beauty and scenery. Visit the Tate Modern Art Gallery and the Barbara Hepworth Sculptural Gardens. St Ives is on the South West Coastal Path, approx 500km, so you can walk out either direction for stunning views (and less people) for miles and miles! St. Ives is a designated 'Area of Natural Beauty'. The town has a cinema, jazz club, tennis club and lots more.
Additional Information?
St Ives has a food festival on the beach every May and an Arts Festival every September. Car parking is difficult in town. You can book your car directly outside our front door and walk down. We have a small courtyard for drying wetsuits, beach gear and laundry (and where our dogs love to sunbathe). Our home is a mid-terrace house in a quiet residential area, only 15 mins walk from the centre and beaches. Grocery store and bus stop 2 mins away.
Hi, I am Peter
Hello, We are an early 50s married couple, non-smokers. I am English and my wife is Irish. We live in beautiful St. Ives, a surf and art town, in Cornwall, England. Cornwall is at the very bottom of England. Its the most popular holiday area in the UK. We both work part-time from home. I work in health and safety and my wife is a business consultant. We are open to home swaps in any location in Europe. We would love to bring our two small dogs. Your pets are welcome in our home. We have a courtyard not a garden but there are 5 beaches within 10 min walks, and easy access to the famous South West Coastal path too. Looking forward to swapping with Swapoffi and see new places whilst we continue to work. Happy to answer any questions before you request a swap.
